Friends,
I’m so excited to introduce a brand new addition to our Substack publication: the Listening in the Dark with Amber Tamblyn (me!) Subscriber Chat.
In the Chat, I’ll be posting prompts, starter questions to get our group engaged in conversation, and just generally Netflix and Chilling with you there, as the kids say. Maybe we will gather to watch a weekly show or movie together (The Umbrella Academy, anyone)? Or OMG over a current hot topic from the news or pop culture (such as stopping low-rise jeans from coming back in style). Or maybe we’ll just hang out and talk about stuff we like, like creating and enjoying art, TV shows, movies, and books.
We’re not 100% sure what this dedicated LITD community space will become, but we’re excited to find out together and we’d love to hear how you’d like to see the Chat feature utilized.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. I’ve found the Substack app to be super user friendly and as simple as swiping through Instagram or pre-Elon Twitter. The format is kind of like a Twitter thread: I’ll get the conversation going and then we can all reply, add pictures, share ideas and recommendations, and get to know each other.
There are no algorithms to fight with on the Substack app or seemingly endless ads for things you don’t really need to buy. You get immediate, easy access to the writing and communities you subscribe to (like this one!) all on your device.
After today, Chat notifications will be sent via the app only, not email, so make sure to turn on push notifications for the Substack app in your phone settings.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Our first thread is up now on the app and I’ll be around for the next hour or so to say hi and learn about this new feature right alongside you. See you there!
If you run into any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
This sounds like a lot of fun although I don’t know how much I could participate. Internet access can be restrictive for me.
Umbrella Academy is good but have you considered a rewatch of something you’ve done? Like Joan of Arcadia or something?
