I fear this will never happen, but my hope for the future is a world where I can be a Republican who doesn't have to see his party become a big cult of personality. I want to be able to vote for candidates without holding my nose or rationalizing the lesser of two evils. I want a Democrat party that stands on its own ideals and doesn't justify getting in the mud because the other side does it.
I just remember being so proud to vote in 2004 for president for the first time and that sense of patriotism as I filled out my ballot. (I did it while listening to America the Beautiful. As for who I voted for, Amber, don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer too). I wish I had that feeling again, rather than an endless feeling of dread.
And it'd be great if both parties told people with Nazi tattoos to f off, and not play rhetorical games justifying them. That's the future I want.
This absolutely wrecked me… As a former college admissions counselor who worked with primarily high school and community college students turned academic advisor, my experience with these young people has been similar. They ask big questions and are consummate seekers of truth and solutions. They also aren’t afraid to ask the hard questions of so-called authority and interrogate the legitimacy of systems and institutions. They have big feelings, even bigger hearts and they live and love out loud. And lastly, they also see the world as it is and more importantly, the possibilities and how it *could* be.
I see you, no longer satisfied to melt your fears, but rather, you tend the heart-pounding inner knowing like a firefly. I see you dancing your fullness, free from hustle; following the flow that life holds out for you. You exchange your specific sound-and-story medicine with those who need it and who offer you much in return. You thrive in a co-creating community devoted to healing and preserving this Earth and her Peoples. You breathe consciously - ahhhh! and practice ways to communicate ever more clearly, with kindness. And you carry on smiling and laughing and crying when you need to.
Your work refreshes me so I can become a giddy glittering child imagining a castle of possibilities where others see a wasteland. Becoming someone who can write a playbook to make it real 🙌🏼🌏🙏🏽
I am finishing my first full year of working at my kids' elementary school. I have learned so much from the kids I see every day. Most importantly, they have taught me that play, laughter and hope need to be a much bigger part of my adult life. I have become the monitor that wears fun earrings every day and the kids love seeing what crazy new finds I'm wearing.
I am going to sit down with this prompt tonight. Thank you, Amber!

Here’s my letter (please imagine rainbows)🌈
Dear future self in the world,
I see you, no longer satisfied to melt your fears, but rather, you tend the heart-pounding inner knowing like a firefly. I see you dancing your fullness, free from hustle; following the flow that life holds out for you. You exchange your specific sound-and-story medicine with those who need it and who offer you much in return. And you carry on smiling and laughing and crying when you need to.
Brava, beauty! 🦋
