This was really well said, Amber.

I'm a Republican Nets fan who has always been skeptical of Mamdani, which makes me the ultimate outlier in New York, but that speech at the Knicks parade was amazing.

It fired me up and I feel he really captured the spirit of New York and the joy the city had been going through the last 8 weeks after years of heartbreak. Made me want to root for the Knicks, which eww.

I love how he was able to immediately disarm the right wing propaganda of him being an evil jihadi terrorist who wants to bring Sharia law to NYC, because he's just so outgoing. Watching him charm Trump was a masterclass.

And yes, I still have a lot of issues with him.

It's hard to think of a politician in my area I admire, since it's all generic Democrats basking in one-party rule, but I do really like our state senator Peter Harckham. He's right down the middle, but he's very visible in our (gerrymandered) district, and I used to cover him as a reporter and found him incredibly fair to deal with. I also miss our old Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, who actually cared about keeping New York affordable and tried to do something about Sheldon Silver's corruption.
