I've spent way too much time on this....

The lock looks similar to some old Hallmark versions.

I couldn't find a default code but I did find someone who had a similar problem and cracked it with:

turn clockwise to M

turn anticlockwise to Y

turn clockwise to A

If you have a little patience: you could try every letter on the the final turn (aka not just A).

I'm guessing you might want to turn it a few times before trying M.

Of course, if you set your own combination, all bets might be off...

This is some excellent investigative work I’m going to try this! And YES, it is a hallmark diary!

*fingers crossed* I'd really love the full subscription.

At that age, that's what my combination would've been. Good luck!

Just to throw a cat amongst the pigeons... some combination locks require you turn it in one direction (typically clockwise) a few times before you start. And some require more than a full rotation (especially on the second letter).

I'm going to guess: 2 full clockwise turns ending up on M. Go anticlockwise past the M stopping on A. Then go clockwise back to the D.

MAD: isn't it. lol
