WTF?! I've never said, “a tub of real artichoke chunks and well-seasoned fixins" in my life. Ever.

Good catch honey, the quotation marks were supposed to just be around “Fixins.” I would NEVER accuse you of saying the word chunks let alone the word artichoke! 🤓

Yes, true but more importantly, why is Amber sleeping on the smoked oyster dip?!

OMG!!!! THIS IS THE ONE I FORGOT. THE HOLY GRAIL. Adding it now!!

YES. Finally somebody is saying it out loud. Dips are not only what this country needs, they are what this country wants. I make me a mean 7-layer dip every Super Bowl Sunday. AND I do it the American Way of googling the recipe.

I don't know how to tell you this? But I was raised by hippies who dipped thick slices of cheddar cheese into a jar of organic peanut butter, then double-dipped into a jar of organic jam, so that by the time the whole dipping sesh was over (it took like 10 minutes to get through the entire block of cheddar) you couldn't tell the two jars apart.

Um yum! I've never done this but would gladly partake!!!

I mean, go for it, but just know that there's a digestion situation ahead of you, and it's not great!

Lol! I should be dairy free but haven't accepted that yet.

all hail the mighty dip! and may i say i thought i was the only cottage cheese and potato chip lover 😂😂

one of my unhealthy but always delicious faves is Crab 🦀 Grass:

sauté a large-ish onion and a few

cloves of butter in a 1/2 c (yes a whole stick) of unsalted butter. Stir in 1 lb of fresh spinach until wilted, then a 1 lb package of imitation flakes crab (like Crab Delights). Remove from heat and stir in 1 generous cup + parmesan, cayenne and salt to taste.

Great to spread on crackers or as a dip on thick chips, or straight from the 🥄 (my preference) as a cozy meal all its own.

Note: this is definitely a no recipe recipe,

meaning to play with the proportions of crab to spinach to cheese, etc.

and shout out to my not-on-substack bestie Dina Light for introducing me to this delicacy when we were in grad school long ago 💛

This dip is regularly requested by everyone I know, which is absolutely bonkers since it's easy to make and no one seems to know how to make it. I'm guessing most who reply to this post are member sof the dip cult and thus, already partake. I'll share it in case new cult members signed up. Empty the Taco Dip: Velveeta (sorry, it has to be this beast, it's melty and gooey), leftover pico de gallo or other salsa (green salsa is especially yummy), scallions, beans that have been drained, plus if you have it, leftover meat from tacos. I generally toss in black olives and use other vegetables to dip in to counter balance Velveeta's heart attack in the offing. Tortilla chips...of course. Loved this post Amber...as always, you cheer me and my darkling ways up.

I had pizza with ranch on the side in Norway! I like à Hungarian cheese dip my friend’s mom used to make: Körözott: 8oz of cream cheese cottage cheese, 1 stick of softened salted butter, 6 oz blue cheese, 4 Tablespoons sour cream, 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon crushed caraway seeds and either 4 chopped scallions or 1/2 cup of grilled onions. Blend in a food processor! Yum! I also like to make Israeli hummus, using soaked dry garbanzo beans.

Clam dip:

A couple pkgs of cream cheese

3 sm cans minced clams drained

Worcestershire sauce

some lemon

Around loaf of sourdough bread not sliced. Cut like you’re cutting a pumpkin top and take out the insides save them. They’ll be good for dipping mixed ingredients together taste it to make sure it taste good scooping into the loaf the top back on and wrap it with aluminum foil Stick it in the oven at 300° for 30 minutes or so. I can’t remember exactly. I remember the 300° though. You can dip veggies into it too.

Sometimes audio doesn’t work for me. LOL. Probably a tablespoon of lemon juice and mix that ingredients together. And put into a round loaf of sourdough bread. Hopefully that’s clearer.

I love dipping pizza crust into ranch!! And your other two “crazy” dips are definitely since that I would try out!! Thank you for the reprieve from the big news that’s always in our face. Your dips made me happy just reading about them.

Let’s not forget that peanut butter makes a great dip for apples and for my GF pretzels!

I went to a Mardi Gras celebration here in Iowa City this year and my friend Stevie Toomey she’s a native Iowan and we were eating fried pickles & dip. Really Ranch tasted best. So Stevie says the Midwestern joke is if you like a guy tell him to put Ranch on his dick. 👅
